Filme von Annette Kennerley
From Queertactics
Annette Kennerley’s body of work is multifaceted. With a magnetic sense of the times, the filmmaker—from her earlier experimental 16mm works of the 1980s to her more straightforward short documentary works on video from the 1990s—explores aesthetic approaches that allow ‚her‘ protagonists a largely brazen or free, and in a certain sense almost precisely tailored (self-)representation on screen—and offers us, the audience, a cinematic experience that is deeply moving: In all of her works, the central theme of the narrative is the filmmaker’s desire to be as close as possible to the characters in and through her films, to lovingly care for them with the camera—and thus to allow us to share in the experience of encountering our social environment with a radically open heart. At the same time, the ‚cast‘ of Kennerley’s films makes it incredibly easy for us to open our hearts—from the iconic leather lesbians in SEX, LIES AND RELIGION (soooo 1980s!) to the no less charismatic trans masc characters in BOYS IN THE BACKYARD and MATT. We’re incredibly excited to finally see Kennerley’s work on the big screen.s
